Is is just us or is everyone snowed under? Snowing since last Friday, we just see white outside our windows!!!

CHRISTMAS IN THE AIR!

Cinnamon Essential Oil smells like the Christmas season with a spicy, woodsy scent that brings you right into the kitchen (isn't that where everyone gathers?) We have some ideas to make your home smell terrific for the holidays.

Christmas Potpourri

Did you know that you can recycle your old potpourri with 10-20 drops of Cinnamon Essential Oil. Don't throw it away - refresh it!

Want to make your own? Here is a do-it-yourself recipe with all the ingredients you will need:

Medium bowl full of pine cones (store bought will work fine)
1 cup dried orange peel
1/2 cup broken cinnamon sticks
2 tablespoons whole cloves
1-2 cups dried flowers of your choice
10 - 20 drops cinnamon essential oil

Toss all dry ingredients together in a glass bowl (or plastic bag) and mix well. Drop essential oil into mix until desired scent is achieved. When the fragrance begins to fade, add more essential oil. Display in your favoriate bowl - glass is best. This is a great hostess gift for your holiday parties.

You can also scent the pine cones with the essential oil and use as decorations around the house. Tie with a holiday ribbon and hang on door handles, in closets or in your car! Be sure that the essential oil is dry on the pine cones before using.

Air Freshener

Make your own air freshener by mixing 2 teaspoons of cinnamon essential oil with either 8 ounces of distilled water or vodka in a spray bottle and use as an air freshener. The essential oil will mix together with the vodka (due to it alcohol content) but will separate with the water. Just shake before each use!

Fall Soap Making

As we look out our window we are already seeing the leaves begin to change and that means only one thing - it must be Fall and time to make soap for the Holiday season right around the corner!

OBN Coconut 76 Degree and Palm Oil have arrived back in stock just in time for you to stock up on the key ingredients for your soap making.

Sizes of both products are 1 lb. tubs, 8 lb. F-style container (the containers we use for our oils), 8 lb. open top pails, and 50 lb. open top pails.

Here is a favorite soap formulation you want to try this season. The soap will be nice and firm right out of the mold and will cure into a very hard bar with lather that will amaze you.

OBN FEATURE ITEM - GRAPEFRUIT ESSENTIAL OIL

Due to an overstock situation, we have been featuring our Grapefruit Essential Oil which is currently on sale for the extraordinary price of $5.00/lb. The fresh scent and antibacterial properties of Grapefruit Essential Oil make it a very useful oil for household purposes. Following are some suggestions for its use that we thought you might find helpful.

Are you tired of wasting money on dryer sheets that you use once and discard? Try using grapefruit oil to freshen your clothes after washing. Use 10-20 drops of grapefruit essential oil on a washcloth and toss into your dryer. How about changing your harsh cleaning products to a more natural alternative? Here are a few ideas:

Mix 2 teaspoons of grapefruit essential oil with either 8 ounces of distilled water or vodka in a spray bottle and use an air freshener. The essential oil will mix together with the vodka (due to its alcohol content) but will separate in the water. Just shake before use!
Mix 1 tablespoon of grapefruit essential oil into 1 gallon of water to clean floors!

Need a "mental boost?" Grapefruit essential oil is very uplifiting and is useful in keeping the "blues" at bay. We have developed a very easy formula to create your own aromatherapy balm to keep with you to use whenever you need it. You will need the following ingredients:

2 ounces of unrefined shea butter
1 ounce of sweet almond oil
1 ounce of white beeswax
1 teaspoon of grapefruit essential oil
4 ounce container of your choice
double boiler or glass mixing bowl
plastic or metal mixing spoon

DIRECTIONS:

Be sure your mixing spoon, double boiler/mixing bowl are clean and free of debris. Disinfect by spraying rubbing alcohol onto each item and wipe dry with paper towel.
Combine the shea butter, oil and beeswax in a double boiler on medium heat until all ingredients are melted and liquid is clear -- stirring frequently to incorporate together. If you do not have a double boiler, use a glass container in the microwave at half power for 4-5 minute intervals until ingredients are melted.
Cool melted liquid for approximately 5 minutes and then add the grapefruit essential oil stirring to incorporate completely.
Pour into your favorite container (which has been disinfected with rubbing alcohol!) and let cool until firmly set.

Welcome to our blog! We are excited to be able to share our ideas, new products, formulations and chat in general.

This month we are featuring one of our favorite oils - Sweet Almond Oil. This is one of the most widely used carrier oils due to its versatility. With a high amount of olein, as well as smaller proportions of linoleic acid, Sweet Almond oil improves the spreadability of creams, lotions and other oils, enhancing the skin, leaving it smooth and soft. Due to its emollient properties, this oil is suitable for all skin types as it helps relieve itching and irritation caused by dry skin. This expeller pressed oil contains Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E and is considered to be non-irritating making a good base oil for many products.

Some of the cosmetic common uses of sweet almond oil are for:

Creams, lotions and bath oils
Soap
Massage oils
